Food Safety & Analytical Quality Control Laboratory is a ISO 17025:2005 certified, food testing
laboratory and is committed to providing high quality analytical services to the food industry.
The scope of testing activity encompasses the quality and safety attributes of agricultural and
food products, including cereal grains and their products; fruits, vegetables and their products,
dairy products, oilseeds and oils, spices and condiments; animal products; plantation products and
flavors; functional foods, processed foods and beverages. It is a national referral centre for food
analysis under the current FSSA 2006 and has experienced competent scientists to monitor all the
activities in analytical testing by keeping a constant track of methods for obtaining the results
with high degree of accuracy. A sound scientific knowledge-base supported with stateľof-theľart
instrumentation, use of standard & accredited methods, Certified Reference Materials, excellent
performance in proficiency testing programmes and inter laboratory comparisons are our assets.
The department offers a wide range of analytical services which include the determination of proximate
composition (moisture, protein, fat, carbohydrates, crude fibre and minerals), nutritional analysis,
analysis of food additives (preservatives, synthetic colours, artificial sweeteners, antioxidants etc.)
and analysis of food contaminants (heavy metals, pesticides, aflatoxins) and microbiological safety.
Food and allied products are also analyzed for compliance to Prevention of Food Adulteration (PFA)
act and Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) specifications.
