About the Department
The department of Meat and Marine Sciences is endeavored with research and development for the efficient
utilization of foods of animal origin and from aquatic environment for human nutrition and health benefits.
The focus of research in the department is on development of protocols for hygienic meat production,
development of novel and convenience products from meat, fish, poultry and egg, value addition to animal
and fish processing by-products. The department is also emphasizing on exploring marine bio-resources for
compounds of health benefits and functional food ingredients. The department, through innovative and improved
technologies and technical services has assisted and promoted the industries based on meat, fish and poultry.
Laboratories in the department are equipped with modern and sophisticated instruments to carry out basic
sciences related to meat quality, meat texture, egg quality, bioactive properties of meat/fish/seaweed
The department offers a variety of technologies in production and processing of hygienic meat/fish, valued added products from meat/fish, novel products from meat/fish/egg, convenience products from meat/fish/egg, value addition to animal processing by-products and formulation of animal feed. Several processes developed in the department are suitable for small scale industries and have been transferred to entrepreneurs for commercialization.
