About the Department
The department is engaged in basic and applied research on chemistry, quality and technology of cereals, millets
and pulses, their products and by-products. Development and application of technologies for conservation, value
addition and product diversification of these grains is also undertaken. Machinery and technologies developed
have penetrated the industry successfully.
The department undertakes technical advice, counselling, preparation of techno-economic feasibility reports, analyses of grain quality and constitutents, quality control, guidance, consultancy and contract research for the industry on case to case basis. Short term courses tailor made to the participating industry is built into the system.
In addition the department imparts higher education to students of M.Sc in Food Technology. Students from the fields of Biochemistry, Biotechnology, B.E and B.Tech students in Engineering, Biotechnology, Food Technology, Food Science & Nutrition are nurtured in the form of dissertation and investigation. The staff are also guide to Ph.D students from various universities.
The department has linkages with many government organizations, universities and other institutions across the country in different forms like sponsored, consultancy, grant in aid projects etc.
