Services Offered

 

Analytical services: FS & AQCL is an ISO 17025:2005 certified food testing laboratory, accredited under the National Accreditation Board for Testing & Calibration Laboratories (NABL), rendering high quality analytical services to the food industry. Laboratory accreditation is a mechanism to assess the technical competence and quality system of laboratories and accreditation to ISO 17025 has continued till date since 2001. Department is committed to provide high quality analytical services to the food industry on a fee basis and offers a wide range of analytical services including the determination of proximate composition, nutritional analysis, analysis of food additives (preservatives, synthetic colours, artificial sweeteners, antioxidants, etc.), analysis of food contaminants (heavy metals, pesticides, Aflatoxins, antibiotics, etc.) and microbiological safety. The scope of testing activity encompasses the quality and safety attributes of agricultural and food and allied products, including cereal grains and their products; fruits, vegetables and their products, dairy products, oilseeds and oils, spices and condiments; animal products, plantation products and flavours, functional foods, processed foods and beverages.

Quality Assurance: Knowledge transfer to food industries on quality standards and quality management systems. Organisation of proficiency testing programs.

Consultancy: Consultancy is also offered for setting up of Food Quality Control Laboratories.

Capacity Building: Short term training programs is offered to the participants, wherein the knowledge base and expertise coupled with excellent infrastructural facilities is made available to the participants. Custom made training modules on different aspects of food testing like analysis of additives, adulterants, contaminants (microbiological, chemical and toxic metals) and nutritional analysis is provided.

Outreach Programmes: The department conducts societal outreach and public/consumer awareness programmes on:

  • Food adulteration and demonstration of simple detection methods.
  • Health hazards of food contaminants (Chemical and microbiological)
  • Food laws of the country for the consumer and food establishments
  • Combating malnutrition in selected children population through intervention of food products developed in the Institute.
