The facilities in the FS & AQCL department are open to investigators of the institute for R&D activities and includes

Genetically Modified Food Referral Facility:
Established under the tenth five year plan, with funding from CSIR, DGHS, DBT and MoEF &CC, the state of the art facility has Thermal cyclers, Real time PCR, Gel documentation system, Laminar flow, refrigerated centrifuges, -80˚C freezer etc. to carry out molecular biology studies.

DNA and Protein Sequencing Facility:
An off shoot of the GM facility, it offers protein/peptide sequencing and DNA sequencing of PCR products and clones. The facility has ABI-310 DNA sequencer, ABI 491-Procise protein sequencer and ABI-Sequence detection system.

Microbial Analysis Facility:
Analysis of food product for its quality and safety received through Customer Service Cell and the Referral Food Laboratory under provision of Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, Rules 2011 for various microbiological parameters.

NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrometer, 400 MHz):

  • Offers quick and reliable method for structural elucidation of small organic molecules in food, and provide complementary strength to food analysis.
  • Evaluation of purity of organic compounds
  • Offer NMR analysis including 2D NMR (COSY, NOESY, HMBC,HSQC,.etc.) for industries and academics with nominal fee

AAS & ICP-AES:
Atomic Absorption spectrometer (AAS) and Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometer (ICP-AES) for the analysis of toxic metals and minerals in food samples

Sophisticated Instrumentation Facility includes:

  • LC-MS/MS for analysis of molecules based on mass (eg. antibiotics), and for determination of accurate mass of any molecules (peptides, polyphenols, oligosaccharides, etc.)
  • GC-FID for the analysis of fats and oils (fatty acid profiling), additives (BHA, BHT, TBHQ, phenolics antioxidants) and flavouring compounds.
  • GC-MS, GC-MS/MS, GC-ECD, GC-FPD, GC-NPD for the analysis of diverse groups of pesticides (organophosphorus, organochlorines, etc.)
  • HPLC-UV/PDA/RI/Fluorescence for the analysis of synthetic colours, preservatives, artificial sweeteners, polyols, caffeine, sugars, amino acids, vitamins, NOTS, etc.
