About the Department
Department of Biochemistry is a basic science department involved in contemporary research with an emphasis on proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, minerals, phytonutrients, spices and nutraceuticals to understand the modulatory effects of these dietary macro and micro nutrients on diabetes, hyperlipidemia and inflammatory disorders. The current research programmes also involve identification of anticancer/antiulcer compounds from natural dietary components employing cell culture and animal models. All the research programmes are undertaken by independent scientists and research students. The research programmes are funded and supported by in house projects and other funding agencies such as DST, DBT, ICMR etc. Our research activities are supported by good instrument facility in the department and complementary facilities within the institute.
