R&D Activities

 

CFTRI Resource Centre, Hyderabad carried out R & D activities extensively on the post-harvest preservation and processing of locally grown fruits and vegetables during the last 50 years.

Canning of tight skinned sweet oranges; comminuted citrus beverages; evaluation of mango varieties for caning as slices, juice and concentrate; optimum maturity and harvesting time for mango variety 'baneshan'; varietal trials on canning of muskmelons and guava as slices, puree and nectar; Utilization of custard apple; Utilization of mango waste; preparation of purified papain; preparation of annatto dye from Bixa orellana seeds, pectin from pectinaceous materials; evaluation of different methods for dehydration of grapes; grape dehydration trials using cold emulsion dip treatment; canning of palmyra kernels, dehydration of figs, canning of sweet corn; application of annatto dye in foods; fabrication of prototype model of annatto seed separator; characterization of oil and protein from fish egg (roes); development of continuous microwave pasteurization and sterilization unit for fruit and vegetable juices.

The centre is presently engaged in the following R & D projects

  • Identification, evaluation and value addition of nutrient and micronutrient dense millets and development of shelf stable intermediate moisture vegetable pastes (Project No.: MLP-0157)
  • Utilization of pumpkin for development of carotene rich extruded and other value added products (Project No.: GAP-0449)
